focus is the word.

Oh' goodness, how we are looking forward to the fall-like weather to get us in gear to pour lots and lots of candles for the upcoming season! We do get somewhat naturally motivated since it is our favorite time of year to pour because of the delicious scent that come with the season!

We have been slacking a bit lately, we will admit. To our defense, we have been quite busy lately with life. Karen and Joey welcomed their second baby boy, Mitchell into our lives in June (and might I add he is a beautiful delight)! I have been a little busy, too: Jesse and I bought and moved into our new house in May and we are happy to announce we are expecting a little one in December! So, this late spring and summer have flown by for all of us and now we are ready to focus a little more on Riverwick.

Luckily, our loyal customers have kept us on track by keeping the orders coming in. We, also, have a big show in Mid-September to prepare for - Doylestown Arts Festival. We are very excited to be apart of the event for our first time.

Again, we thank you all for your loyality and kind encouragement. We will be announcing our new fall scents very soon!

rewind & fast forward

rewind to january & fast forward to almost MAY??? like they say "time flies when you're having fun (and busy)".

january was a good time for us to slow down on the candle pouring & re-group for this upcoming year. we had "the healthy diva" event at pennridge high school in perkasie, pa where we had a great day at our booth and especially networking with fellow local business owners.
we made friends with our "next booth neighbors", wash tyme handmade soap owners, dorinda & andy rumbold. their natural vegetable glycerin soaps are amazing by the way! i have started using them in my every day cleaning & use as a pre-treater for laundry - they are an excellent de-greaser!
we also participated in the outdoor ottsville farmers market at linden hill gardens. how you ask did we do an outdoor event in january? in one of linden hills green houses of course! it was nice and toasty & we had plants all around us to boot! many of the summer farmers market vendors were in attendance & we had a great day!

february found riverwick brainstorming over new scents for the season & setting up delivery of materials for the year. this actually brought on much frustration as our coveted chrome lids were placed on back order. we then had a scare that our wicks potentially would not be manufactured anymore. discontinuation of scent oils. problems printing our logo on our lables. followed by price increases on...um...EVERYTHING... and just for good measure, let's throw in that it's our first year of filing riverwick taxes. how do we continue??

bring on march!!!! The turn that frown upside down month! new scents added: honeysuckle jasmine (great upgrade from plain honeysuckle), caribbean teak, rain water, jamaican me crazy, hydrangea, pina colada, seduction, and some others. we placed a bulk order for our jars, with glass lids :-( however the chrome lids to be shipped free of charge when back in stock :-). our wicks will continue to be manufactured - huge sign of relief as it is very hard to find one that works as well as ours do with palm wax. we figured out our label printing problems with the help from our good friend george quinn.
riverwick also partnered up with a wedding coordination & stationery company, proud to plan , and was a featured vendor in their blog vendor friday.
last but not least, we wrapped up the month with our taxes all buttoned up & figured out! we celebrated by offering all our customers 10% off on the last day of the month. ahhh things are back on track!

april brought a new line up of scents at sharon's gifts & collectibles in wellsboro, pa. it also brought the exiting news that we were accepted into doylestown's arts festival this september!! it's a two day event & we are so thrilled to be involved as it's a very highly attended festival. if you're in the area on september 17th & 18th you should check it out.
we also received our jar order - holy moly - where we gonna put all these jars?? a big thank you to walter's nursery for temporarily housing the jars. an even bigger thank you to our strapping young husbands, jesse & joey, and our dear friend beth, for helping us unload all those boxes into the candle shop! we can't forget to thank little rhett too for supervising all the hard work.
riverwick celebrated earth day with green changes at central park / kids castle in doylestown, pa. everyone enjoyed a potluck picnic under the pavillion & there were many activities for kids & adults including local eco-friendly business owners showcasing their products, recycling of small hand-held electronics & batteries, and movement & stretching activities.
our last event for the month of april will be the first ottsville farmers market of the summer season this friday, april 29th from 4pm-8pm.
and just like that...it's MAY!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary!

It has officially been one year since we started riverwick candle company and what an adventure and learning experience it has been! We are definitely growing!
We started pouring our candles in Karen's kitchen one batch at a time, and since have moved to Karen's basement where we now have a fully operational candle shop.
We started by selling to our family & friends, and had a small display in PinUps (Angela's Salon). Since then, we have a full display case at PinUps Salon, have our candles featured in Bucks County gift baskets, three retail stores (almost a 4th), Internet orders, participated in many shows including Laurel Festival and Dickens of a Christmas in Wellsboro, PA , have done candles as party favors for wedding & baby shower's, and have done several custom order labels for companies wanting to give our candles as holiday client gifts, AND THEN SOME!!
Needless to say, our little business adventure has come a long way, and is growing daily. We would like to thank every single person and business that has supported riverwick candle company. It is because of YOU that we have come so far. We appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to the continued support and success.
Happy New Year!

Bucks County Baskets & Ottsville Farmer's Market

riverwick candles will now be featured in "Bucks County Baskets" from The Kitchen Potager at Linden Hill Gardens, Ottsville, PA. These baskets feature selected local products that can be ordered and picked at The Kitchen Potager, or shipped directly. We are honored to have our candles selected to be in these one-of-a-kind baskets. Below is the brochure that comes in each basket with a write up on each product. See riverwick on middle right!

Also at Linden Hill Gardens is the Ottsville Farmer's Market, where you will find riverwick candle company one Friday a month until October.

July 9th
August 13th
September 17th
october 1st

This festive market includes local farmers, fresh produce, delicious fresh seafood, artisans and local chef demos. Believe me, you won't be disappointed with the food cooked over the open firepit in the center of the market! Angela & I both might go just for the food! There are also sheep & goats in a pen next to the market, baby Rhett especially enjoys them!

Juggling Act

Unfortunately, Karen's new job title as "stay-at-home Mom" & Candle Company entrepreneur didn't last long. One week to the day, after leaving my administrative position I received a phone call from my old boss. I was offered a promoted position in the company. After long thought & in-depth conversations with my husband, Joey, we decided it was an offer I couldn't refuse. So, back to work I go (but not before a little trip to London with cousin Buck!)

My available time to put toward our little candle company just got whacked BIG time. Luckily, I have the best, most devoted, hardworking, and understanding partner anyone could ever wish for in my best friend, and sister-in-law, Angela. She is the heart and soul of our company & I give thanks every day for all her efforts & enthusiasm. But don't worry - I'll still be pouring candles & helping her in every way I can! Life has just become a juggling act!

Playing Catch up

Ok, so where did we leave off? Oh yes, back in...May??...so, we have some catching up to do! Our tardiness is with good reason though, busy busy busy!
We poured candles like mad women throughout the month of May in order to prepare for the madness that June would bring. June 12th we took our candles to Forest Grove Presbyterian Church craft show. The weather was gorgeous & helped bring out the parishioners and locals to peruse our table.

Next Stop, PA State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro, PA - Home sweet home

This is the show we had been preparing all May long for, and boy are we glad we did! It was absolutely wonderful! Our families came down to the Green to help us set up our tent, tables, & candle displays. For our first "real" event, things looked pretty good!
Weather, atmosphere, food, and most importantly the PEOPLE! We had so much fun talking with new people, making new connections (with our new friend Dean aka "the boy next door" especially), and of course seeing all of our old friends and family. It was kind of like a high school reunion at times! The weekend couldn't have been more successful for riverwick. Sincere thanks to all those who helped set up, man the booth, and tear down. Also, a special thanks to all those at the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce who helped put on such a spectacular festival! We hope to see you again next year!
