rewind.

to keep you up-to-date i will rewind and start from the beginning.

karen and her husband, joey, recently blessed our entire family with a baby boy, rhett. he is amazingly perfect and, obviously, is the center of all of our lives! karen has a great job, however, like all of us, would love to supplement her little income, too.

i have a successful business, pinups salon, but like to be creative & crafty in my down time. i would love to make a little profit from my hobbies that would supplement my income so i will have even more flexibility when jesse and i have children someday.

that is how riverwick candle company was born with a desire to do what we enjoy, be our own bosses, and have a flexible schedule to accomodate our lifestyles.

karen & i are both very blessed to have amazing and supportive husbands who allow us to make our dreams a reality. so about a month ago we got serious. we spent endless hours researching and discussing! to be honest, we enjoyed every hour because the anticipation of success was with us!

we finally ordered test products, hired a graphic designer, decided what website builder to use, etc.

so we are learning as we go. asking a lot of questions. continuing to research. and looking for success.

we appreciate any ideas or tips anyone has to offer so, please do not hesitate!

burn baby burn.

karen & i had our first candle pouring adventure yesterday.

what a good day.

all of our supplies finally came in and we were excited!
i have poured candles before, but this time karen and i were in search of the perfect combination of container, wax, wick, scent and color.

with aprons on, we started cooking! our first batch was our control - no scent no color (how boring). then we got a little more creative and made two more batches with different scents & different colors.

sadly, we realized we need a refresher on math particularly fractions. yes, at one point i called my husband for division help. pathetic. thank goodness for all of us, he is a genius (compared to us).

we divided the candles & read how to conduct a burn test.
which is what i am currently in the process of doing. unfortunately, my test candles are not doing so well.

ugh.

all the excitement, research, time, calculations.. back to the drawing (and buying) board!
even though i am presently bummed, i know our efforts were not a complete waste - we learned a lot from yesterdays adventures & today's experiments.

but the bottom line is: we had fun together yesterday. success.
