Bucks County Baskets & Ottsville Farmer's Market

riverwick candles will now be featured in "Bucks County Baskets" from The Kitchen Potager at Linden Hill Gardens, Ottsville, PA. These baskets feature selected local products that can be ordered and picked at The Kitchen Potager, or shipped directly. We are honored to have our candles selected to be in these one-of-a-kind baskets. Below is the brochure that comes in each basket with a write up on each product. See riverwick on middle right!

Also at Linden Hill Gardens is the Ottsville Farmer's Market, where you will find riverwick candle company one Friday a month until October.

July 9th
August 13th
September 17th
october 1st

This festive market includes local farmers, fresh produce, delicious fresh seafood, artisans and local chef demos. Believe me, you won't be disappointed with the food cooked over the open firepit in the center of the market! Angela & I both might go just for the food! There are also sheep & goats in a pen next to the market, baby Rhett especially enjoys them!

Juggling Act

Unfortunately, Karen's new job title as "stay-at-home Mom" & Candle Company entrepreneur didn't last long. One week to the day, after leaving my administrative position I received a phone call from my old boss. I was offered a promoted position in the company. After long thought & in-depth conversations with my husband, Joey, we decided it was an offer I couldn't refuse. So, back to work I go (but not before a little trip to London with cousin Buck!)

My available time to put toward our little candle company just got whacked BIG time. Luckily, I have the best, most devoted, hardworking, and understanding partner anyone could ever wish for in my best friend, and sister-in-law, Angela. She is the heart and soul of our company & I give thanks every day for all her efforts & enthusiasm. But don't worry - I'll still be pouring candles & helping her in every way I can! Life has just become a juggling act!

Playing Catch up

Ok, so where did we leave off? Oh yes, back in...May??...so, we have some catching up to do! Our tardiness is with good reason though, busy busy busy!
We poured candles like mad women throughout the month of May in order to prepare for the madness that June would bring. June 12th we took our candles to Forest Grove Presbyterian Church craft show. The weather was gorgeous & helped bring out the parishioners and locals to peruse our table.

Next Stop, PA State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro, PA - Home sweet home

This is the show we had been preparing all May long for, and boy are we glad we did! It was absolutely wonderful! Our families came down to the Green to help us set up our tent, tables, & candle displays. For our first "real" event, things looked pretty good!
Weather, atmosphere, food, and most importantly the PEOPLE! We had so much fun talking with new people, making new connections (with our new friend Dean aka "the boy next door" especially), and of course seeing all of our old friends and family. It was kind of like a high school reunion at times! The weekend couldn't have been more successful for riverwick. Sincere thanks to all those who helped set up, man the booth, and tear down. Also, a special thanks to all those at the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce who helped put on such a spectacular festival! We hope to see you again next year!

it's show time, ladies!

5am Saturday morning, we both sprung
outta of our beds with smiles on our faces:
in 4 hours our first show was opening its doors!
we had worked day & night all week preparing
and we were about to reap the benefits
and see the publics reaction to our product!

final touches.
it wasn't always pretty.

all the goods boxed & ready!

after we unloaded the truck we spent over an hour setting up,
rearranging, deciding and then rearranging again and again.
all the fussing paid off because our table looked soo cute!

and we are super excited about our newest addition
just in time for "bug season"
OUTDOOR CITRONELLA CANDLES!
currently, we offer:
citronella, citronella with honeydew and citronella with mountian air!
16oz in a vintage jar for only $14.

it was a fun day & the response to our candles was GREAT!

aww, success!
now we are excited for our next show & to start having home shows!

Coming Soon!

Riverwick.com is coming soon!! i am hard at work to get this baby up and running! it's not quite ready to be launched yet, as i am still working out some bugs. but it should be up and ready for viewing in no time!

we are very excited to see our little "hobby" turn into something successful and this website is just another step toward the goal! also, our logo is in the final tweaking stages. we've been trying different labels for the jars. we just got new cute molds for our tartlettes (mixed fruit, dogwood flowers, mixed flowers, and star shapes). things are rock'en & rolling on the candle front! i plan on pouring candles tonight and am very excited to try those new molds! sadly, i am without my partner...she is basking in the key west sun currently! (i'm hugely jealous) but my mom is visiting us this week, so she can be my helper (aka, keep rhett happy).

Monday, February 22, 2010

lookin' official.

more candles are poured, temporary labels are on & tartletts are ready to melt!
clean cotton, water herbal & sandalwood are the newest scents!

side job.

on saturday, our father-in-law got married. it was a perfect day. a beautiful blanket of snow covered the ground, the temperature was mild, the ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, the bride and groom looked amazing & were so happy, the reception was fun and the food was delicious! (in the photo: pop, elaine and randy (elaine's youngest son))

the bride and groom would not accept any gifts so, we decided to make favors for everyone that attended..

as always, we made a mess while baking & decorating the cookies, but it was worth the mess & time! Everyone raved about how they tasted & could not believe we made them (everyone swore the restaurant provided them). Elaine was delighted to have something for everyone to take home & was thrilled we took the time to make them :)
it was a simple gesture for us to do and were happy everyone enjoyed the treats!

by the way, if you ever contemplated purchasing the pampered chef baking sheets.. they are worth every penny! amazing, baked evenly with not an ounce of brown!!

while we were baking, karen & rhett got to compete in a few wii mountain sport events! how sweet and filled with excitement is rhett's face while wii tubing!!

so, if you or anyone you know is hosting an event or shower where sweet treats are needed - just let us know. we bake & ship to anywhere! we have many designs under our belt & are always willing to try new ideas!!

this morning we performed a triple double test burn just to make sure our combination was perfect and to our delight all the candles are beautiful, burn great and smell delicious!

yippee!

we put a few on display at pinups salon and they already have people talkin'

what a good feeling :)

dreaming of a winter wonderland.

lots going on in our lives the next few days. good and bad.
first, the bad: karen has to go back to work :( uh' nothing makes me unhappier. the positive is that it is part-time and it will only be temporary! she will be back home with rhett in no time,
i just know it!
secondly, the good: my husband is remodelling our bathroom (which was much overdue) and i leave tomorrow to have a spa weekend with my momma :) but that is not all! it is supposed to snow tomorrow, the super bowl is this weekend, both of us have our taxes done, and we will be pouring more candles soon! oh' and we have a wedding to go to next weekend (and we are making some beautiful and yummy favors for)!
just wanted to keep you updated and did not want to slack on the blogging!!
looking forward to our next post to be filled with even more good news! xxoo

two wicky.

great success!
with a lighter in one hand and rhett in the other i started the second round of burn tests!

we found a good combo and it involves two wicks per container. we think it looks fancy and hopefully it will be a crowd pleaser. please, let us know if you have an opinion..

needless to say, we ordered more wicks and are ready to get the assembly line up and running because we had buyers today but no candles to sell :(
but that is a good sign!!

Monday, February 1, 2010

if at first you don't suceed, try & try again.

with high hopes (again) we poured some more candles this afternoon!
we changed up the wicks and are hoping one of the combinations works perfectly. we shall see tomorrow when we start our second round of test burns.

our setup is not glamorous, but it works..

we hope to one day soon have enough equipment to set up shop in the basement!

and the bottom line is no matter how deep we are involved.. rhett is the boss! (& to be honest, we are okay with that)

so, please cross your fingers for us!
we will let you know tomorrow how today's experiments work out!
